Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Hiring Custodians for the Transport Department

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and seeking more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.

The Transport Department (TA) is tasked with transporting and supervising individuals deprived of their liberty. These are clients of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service who are moved between detention centers and prisons, to court hearings, hospitals, and more. TA also transports individuals deprived of their liberty for entities such as the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Migration Agency, and psychiatry. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a custodian within TA, you will be part of a team consisting of two to four people, where everyone is responsible for different roles in carrying out client transports. You will encounter a wide variety of clients of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences. You will search, restrain with handcuffs, and supervise the client during transport.

The assignments of TA are varied, which means your working hours may change from day to day. Evening, night, and weekend work may be included. The times in the schedule are frame times, usually 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Nationally, it is more common to finish before the frame time ends, and in most cases, you will have a consistent start time. Frame time means that the employer can change the start and end times. Changes are communicated before the previous shift ends. For example, a shift may be between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM (12 hours) or 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (7 hours). Working hours are reviewed every three months. If you work more than planned, you will receive overtime compensation. If you work less, you will still receive your normal salary.
